BiographyBorn in Abadan in south- western Iran in1064, Fariba Mirzaie Played with artful combination of forms and materials from the age of five. When the Iran- Iraq war erupted in 1980 the family moved from the border region to the North. Around this time, Fariba started designing Fashion, soon heading her own successful business. She moved to Vancouver1996with her daughter and undertook formal art studies .graduating from Textile Arts Program, Advanced Studies and sculpture at Capilano University in North Vancouver. She also studied fashion art at Vancouver community college. Fariba Mirzaie is fiber artist who turns to nature for both material and inspiration the pieces of clothing she creates are truly wearable art; beautiful to look at and to touch. She starts with an idea for the finished piece, but as she works she is controlled by the shapes and the colors she creates. Her work is original, both in the use of surface design processes and her dress making skills and also are very imaginative; she stiffens and joins fabrics in unlikely manners to create wearable garments. She has produced several solo and group fashions shows at several venues. For many of these events she created the fabrics and the design, constructed the garments, and organized the events. She had her own gallery ‘Gabbeh’ at international village Tinsel town, for 3years. Her work has been included in several exhibitions throughout Vancouver her work can be seen at www.gabbeh.ca.
